{Terms, Conditions, and Policies Disclaimer of I Love The State}
NOTICE: You must agree to all the terms, conditions, and policies of this legal notice to continue enjoying I Love The State. Also, we are not responsible for anything that should come about from viewing / visiting / downloading / etc. from this website and MySpace page network. THIS DISCLAIMER MAY BE CHANGED AT ANY TIME, AND WE WILL NOTIFY YOU OF ANY CHANGES MADE.
ARTICLE 1: Who We Are, What We Do, and Our Relation to The State
I Love The State is run by two huge fans of The State and their various projects. We are a COMPLETELY FREE, NO MONEY INVOLVED fansite with a purpose to educate other fans about The State's work, past, present, and future... and also to provide somewhat of an archive for their works that are not available to purchase on DVD. We know how much their work spreads happiness and laughter, and inspires others... and so we want you all to be able to enjoy it for the first time, or for the hundredth time!
In a perfect world, everything that The State members have done would be available for legal purchase by the copyright holders. Here at I Love The State, we would love to have as little multimedia as possible. Yes, you heard that correctly! It would be wonderful if there was very little multimedia here, and everyone could legally own their own copies of all the State members' works. Hopefully, there will be a day when all we will have is news, and promotional materials for upcoming projects. Keep supporting The State and those they work with... and maybe this dream can become a reality!
Please note that we are really not set up to accommodate all requests for content. Even with our vast "archives," we may not have everything that a particular State member has done in their career. Please note that we are also honored to accept anything that fans wish to share, and you will receive our heartfelt thanks and complete credit for your submission. Also, some requests are things that are against policy: for example, a request for someone's favorite Reno 911! scene. We will not fulfill this request because the series is readily available for purchase on DVD. Also, as you can imagine, we often get many requests for content... and it is quite simply impossible to fulfill all of them. We do welcome any suggestions, though, and will read and consider everything sent to us.
We ARE NOT The State, and we ARE NOT affiliated with them, their management, studios that they work with, their families, etc. If you wish to get in touch with a member of The State, we strongly suggest that you find your own way to contact them. Most of them have a personal website or a MySpace page where you could likely get in touch with them. Also, one could always write a wonderful snail-mail letter to their management or perhaps one of the studios that they work with. I'm sure that they appreciate all the correspondence from their fans.
ARTICLE 2: Money, Profits, and the Lack of Both on I Love The State
I Love The State is not just a NON-PROFIT fansite, but a COMPLETELY FREE, NO MONEY INVOLVED fansite. Most fansites will claim to be non-profit, but of course... profit is defined "as returns, proceeds, or gains from an investment." Sure, most fansites may be non-profit in that they end up "losing" money (that was put into servers / web hosting / etc.) at the end of the day, but many of those fansites are still taking in money. You'll sometimes find PayPal donation buttons or snail-mail addresses for those "who love the site and want to help keep it running" to send a few dollars. Sometimes, there will be banner ads or pop-up windows that generate a few pennies for every click on them. Many times, you'll see links to various retailers (like Amazon.com) where you can purchase DVDs and such related to those that the fansite is honoring. What many people don't realize is that those retailer links often have referral codes in them that gives the website owner a commission on each sale made from clicking that link (usually a 5% share of the total sale or something similar). Some may say, "Oh, it just ends up being about 50 cents that the website owner gets from an average sale." Well, to us, that is 50 cents too much! Nobody should be getting money from The State's hard work but The State, the studio that is releasing their work, and the retailers that you are buying from. You are NEVER going to find us asking for donations, putting up banner ads, giving you online purchasing links, or charging you for anything! Everything on this site is the result of our hard work and our own money spent. It is free of charge for all of The State's fans around the world to enjoy and to show their love and appreciation for those wonderful people.
ARTICLE 3: Media and Copyrights
URGENT: PLEASE DO NOT THREATEN US WITH AND / OR FILE A LAWSUIT AND / OR FINE US IF YOU OBJECT TO ANY CONTENT ON THIS SITE!
IF YOU ARE THE COPYRIGHT OWNER OF ANY CONTENT FEATURED HERE, SIMPLY CONTACT US AND IT WILL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY, WITH A FORMAL, SINCERE, AND PUBLIC APOLOGY ISSUED TO YOU.
WE DO NOT WISH TO BE INVOLVED IN ANY LEGAL TROUBLES, AND WE PROMISE TO FULLY COOPERATE WITH ANY COPYRIGHT HOLDERS OR AUTHORITIES THAT HAVE ISSUE WITH OUR WEBSITE.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
If you have come to I Love The State under the assumption that you could possibly download and enjoy various works of The State that are available on DVD already, so that you could save a few dollars, you are mistaken. It is our policy NOT to feature any video clips of content that is available on DVD, because we want you to support The State and purchase their works as you should.
For example, you will not even find any clips of the 5th season of Reno 911! when it begins airing, because we all know that the season will be released on DVD eventually. It may not be on DVD at the time of airing, but we know that it will end up on DVD. You also won't find a complete copy of The State: Skits & Stickers VHS or the State by State with The State book here. Those were legally released in the United States at one point, and you can still find them for purchase if you look hard enough. Unless we are given permission to digitally distribute those sought-after items, we will not feature them in their entirety here.
Instead, we here at I Love The State focus on projects, interviews, etc. that The State were involved in that are not archived somewhere for you to purchase on DVD legally... everything ranging from TV guest spots, talkshow appearances, sketches, and various promotional works. Should something later become available for you to purchase on DVD (for example, a talkshow appearance later appearing on a movie DVD as a bonus feature), we will remove that media from this site and notify you that it is available for you to purchase on DVD somehow.
The bulk of our multimedia consists of video clips (for content not on DVD), screencaptures / photographs and audio clips. The latter two are usually reserved for items that may be available to purchase on DVD, or if many of our visitors request them. Now, we would like to discuss how we feel that our multimedia is protected under FAIR USE LAWS for these reasons, including but not limited to:
1. This site serves as an educational tool for fans of The State. We feel that by sharing multimedia and news related to The State, fans new and old will be educated on their lives, careers, and projects (past, present, and future). Just as many important figures in the world have archives dedicated to their lives and careers, we feel that we offer a wonderful service to both pay tribute and educate others about these wonderful people's lives and careers.
2. We operate in the best interests of The State and any studios they work with. We are a NO MONEY INVOLVED fansite, and we make it a point to encourage everyone to buy movie tickets, CDs, DVDs, and any and all merchandise to support The State and the studios that they work with. Most of the video clips that we share can be used to promote those studios and projects. In fact, we welcome any input from the studios or State members. We'd be honored to share any information on upcoming projects, or feature any trailers, video, audio, interactive games, press releases, links or other content to help spread the word! This site is all about educating people about, showing our love and support for, and providing a place for fans of The State to gather. After all that The State has done for the world, we are thrilled to be able to show our love and appreciation with this site.
3. Video clips are for content that is not available for purchase on DVD. Even so, our video clips are not DVD or broadcast quality. They may be better than YouTube / web streams, but they are not perfect quality, because it is up to the studios to release DVD / broadcast quality content for purchase legally. Hopefully, we can drum up interest for these projects to be released legally for purchase somehow. That's where the fans come in!
4. Screencaptures and audio clips are usually reserved for content that is available on DVD. We believe that those pieces of multimedia (non-video) are protected under FAIR USE LAWS for the following reasons, including but not limited to:
A. Screencaptures and audio clips do not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute video or DVDs of the content in question in any way.
B. Those multimedia (non-video) pieces are used for educational / illustration purposes only, and do not detract from the original video / DVD content in any way.
C. Without video / motion picture footage to enjoy, one will not be able to enjoy the full experience of the content. Imagine watching a movie with your eyes closed, or without audio or subtitles for you to follow what is going on. You will be unable to have the full experience of the content without legally purchasing your own copy on DVD, etc. With these screencaptures and audio clips, you are merely getting a small taste of the experience so that you can go out and purchase your own copy of the content legally. We believe that this service is similar to a movie trailer or how online retailers will let you sample a few pages of a book... it merely acts as something to promote the content and get you to purchase it legally.
5. Any movie trailers and other promotional content here is content that has aired on television or other medium and / or has had legal clearance to do so during those broadcasts, etc. There is a reason why only certain movie clips and scenes are clearanced to air during trailers and talkshow appearances... they want you to make purchases and support the studios and artists, and that is the way it should be!
6. Again, there is absolutely NO MONEY INVOLVED with I Love The State. We will always encourage everyone to give their money to the studios and the artists, as it should be! In fact, we are acting as free and good publicity for The State and everyone they are involved with. All in all, this place is about fans, love, and appreciation! In a perfect world, everything that the State members have done would be available on DVD. We actually want to have as little multimedia as possible, and hopefully, drumming up interest in all their projects will lead to DVD releases!
END OF DISCLAIMER. DISCLAIMER CURRENT AS OF SUNDAY, AUGUST 12, 2007.
